On October 27, 2013, Port Jefferson Village hosts its fourth annual Harvest Festival from 1:00-5:00pm. The fall festival offers a host of activities to appeal to every member of the family, including the dog. Begin browsing Long Island’s numerous pet supply stores now in a quest for the perfect Halloween costume for your canine companion, and then let your pup strut his or her stuff incognito in the costumed dog parade. From cheerleaders' pleated mini skirts, French maid pinafores, butterfly wings and ballerina tutus to devils, witches, princesses and pirates, your dog can enjoy the festivities of Halloween as he or she prances along Main Street. Be sure to reward your pooch's tricks with a treat from the doggy cookie selection on display at the Port Jefferson Frigate ice cream and sweets shop or from the Fetch Doggy Boutique & Bakery.
Other activities at the Harvest Festival include a scarecrow walk along East Main Street, pumpkin decorating and Halloween arts and crafts, a marshmallow roast and a chowder tasting contest. Many of these activities are held at the Port Jefferson Village Center. For a schedule of these events, go to http://www.portjeff.com/2013/10/harfest-festival-events/ They are also posted at the Village Way Restaurant.
